The Importance of Healthy Food

After the birth of my son my entire life changed. I slept less, I ate differently, I exercised.... Oh wait. I didn't exercise. Around month 6 of my son's birth I realized that I still had not lost all of the weight I had gained during my pregnancy. I was lucky enough to only gain 33lbs, and Breastfeeding helped me to lose 15lbs immediately after the birth, however I was not happy with my body. It was then that I purchased Insanity and truly began trying to get fit. After my first round of Insanity I saw some results. My body was toner in areas, I felt more energized and I was not in pain as I would have normally been. However I still struggled with some excess weight.
As life sometimes does, I was thrown some curve balls and my fitness path was set on hold. During this time I began eating differently. I put aside the soda and began to drink lemon water or green tea. I ate healthier choices instead of fast food or pre-made convenient meals. I will not lie and say I cut out all of the bad choices, because I do indulge myself to goodies at least once a week. However everything is in proportion. Since my diet change I have at least dropped 1lb a week. I have lost an additional 15lbs and the scale just keeps going down. If you are ready for a change in your body, the easiest way is to start with your diet. Here is a great and healthy recipe for you to start off with.

Healthy Chicken Salad

1 1/4 cup plain, nonfat yogurt
1/2 cup grapes (cut in half)
1/2 cup apple (chopped)
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or almonds
2 cups cooked, chopped chicken
Mix yogurt, grapes, apples, and nuts. Combine chicken and yogurt mixture and place on top of salad or on whole-wheat bread.
Total time: 20 minutes (if chicken isn't already cooked)
Total servings: 4
